I just saw this on Gothamist. It’s great! It’s the blog of a cab driver. She’s female which is unusual too.
She settles an oft-wondered question too. How much to tip a cab driver? She says it should be like you are in a restaurant. 20%. I find a lot of people at work tip less than that under $10. It’s not fair, but I’ve noticed it. What’s even stranger is that these people get reimbursed for these cabs. It’s not their money. Why wouldn’t they tip fairly?
This blog reminds me of other favorite things to read about like celebrities and how they tip. And just bar blogs too in general. There’s always a thousand bar stories.
I can count on one hand the number of interesting work stories I have from the office jobs. The other jobs always have better stories. Like when I was a lifeguard, when I worked construction, when I was an intern at a theatre. Hell, even when I worked at Subway. (the sandwich shop)
Offices are boring. Only at D&D Advertising do interesting things happen there. (For the unenlighented this was Heather Locklear’s character Amanda’s advertisting firm on Melrose Place.) (In the comical world of soap operas, Billy started working there too as a copywriter and Allison did too. I can’t remember what Allison’s job was though.) This is a total sidenote but what a weird career Courtney Thorne-Smith has had. I remember her clearly from the tv show version of Fast Times At Ridgemont High. And of course she was in the Revenge of the Nerds sequel. And Summer School. Then her next big break was on Ally McBeal. But now she’s back in the dumps again. She’s on According To Jim. Television purgatory if I’ve ever heard of one.
Also, just to bring it back to bars and cabs. Jake worked as a bartender at the Melrose local, Shooters, and Billy did drive a cab for a while too.
This was an interesting site, the one about tipping, but how old is it? They had couples there that were together like 10 years ago. Quit living in the past, tip blog!
