The single best moment of March Madness ’07 so far was one of the announcers saying, “That’s a man jam!” After somebody dunked with authority. Which game was this? Porter? I forget.
I just confirmed it was actually, “That’s a man’s jam” and it was said during the ‘Thropper’s game vs. ND. (Winthrop.)
Second best moment was during the Kansas/Kentucky game, just following a promo for the 60 Minutes interview with Simon Cowell.
Jim Nantz read the promo, then said, “And I’m here with the Simon Cowell of CBS basketball, Billy Packer” or something like that.
Then Packer said, really awkwardly, “Oh, OK. Now… Jim, in all are years of broadcasting I have never touched you during a basketball game.”
Silence.
Packer: “Isn’t that… what’s being… implied?”
Nantz then smartly said, “I don’t know, I don’t know” and moved everything back to the game.
But it was fascinating! What was Packer thinking? My theory is he confused Simon Cowell with the Queer Eye guys, and was making like a homophobic comment.
