Villain Accessories

For some reason, I continue to watch Prison Break. I’m curious if Tanouye still does. But one thing that is still fun about PB is the over-the-top villains. This past episode had one of them pulling a David Caruso because he seemed unusually fond of his sunglasses. He didn’t even take them off to shoot a car. Which I think is hilarious. It has to be just for looks right? I mean, there’s no reason to disguise your identity with sunglasses because all it does is cover your eyes. And most people can’t remember what color a person’s eyes are on short notice anyway. But then again, maybe there’s a back story. Maybe he has really photo sensitive eyes like Bono. Wait, no, he just shot someone just now and the shades were off. So I suppose he was just too lazy to take them off before.

It begs the question what are the best villain accessories out there. The mustache is key. It can be the dastardly waxed kind you can twirl. Or a creepy whisp of one. A cane is nice. Especially if it’s got a blade inside. Or some sort of secret poison or explosive device. (Penguin had a great collection of umbrellas that accomplished the same thing.) And then there’s the pet. Most notably, Dr. No’s Persian cat.

Then there’s the 21st century ones to be considered. Like cell phones. This guy in PB has a pretty shitty cellphone. But I guess it makes sense. He’s just a henchman.

Great topic, nate. Prison Break is a little ridiculous now, but I’m still watching. Some of the plot choices seem REALLY weak. It’s weird though for that villain dude, I don’t understand their motivation(except to get money and be evil). All of the convicts tend to have better more explained back stories and motivations.

But I think James Bond is a treasure trove of villain accessories. A fluffy cat is such a funny thing to have as a villain’s side kick when you think of it. I like that one servant dude’s razor frisbee hat. Or even the Jaws guy’s braces.

Yeah, whatever “Scylla” turns out to be? It’s going to be disappointing.

The dude with the razor hat? “Odd Job”. I like how Austin Powers parodied him with the character “Random Task”. Interesting tidbit: the actor who played “Odd Job” legally changed his name to “Odd Job”. Weird!
