Okay, I said I was gonna do it. So here we go. 2010. 52 songs! One a week, every week. So this is it…. the first one. Finished this morning. It’s called “Halo ‘Round The Moon” because the other day there was one and I started thinking about it. I realized this morning that there is a Steve Earle song called that too but whatever. They’re different! You don’t OWN that title Steve Earle!
Halo ‘Round The Moon
There’s a halo ‘round the moon
The stars are startin’ to think it’s way too soon
That big ol’ moon didn’t do anything too saintly
But there’s a halo ‘round the moon
Maybe George Bailey finally got it right
And lasso’ed her tonight
And soon they’ll be eating moon beams for dinner
But there’s a halo ‘round the moon
They say it’s ice crystals that’ve been formed
And they’ll go away when it’s all warmed
But I prefer to think it’s something more special
When there’s a halo ‘round the moon
I like to think it means that we’re in for a spell
Of a kind of magic wishing you well
And if you shoot for the stars, you’ll end up somewhere in the moon
Into that halo ‘round the moon
And maybe I’m wrong
Maybe I’m right
I could be that guy
But not tonight
I’m not waiting up to see
What will happen to me
I’m gonna let them fall where they may
I just don’t care what some folks say
So they say Laura, blow your candles out
And that cricket, well he’s a fool
I’m not saying he’s dumb, but he’s never been to school
And there’s some things you gotta learn, before you make it
And one’s how to take it when your heart’s been breaking
When there’s a halo ‘round the moon
